Food for thought: ‘acting’ is about telling stories, and ‘theatre’ about telling stories in a specific context. In this course you will be introduced to the basics of ‘acting’ and ‘theatre’ – ie. to the basics of ‘telling a story’. Using exercises, improvisations and specific acting tasks we’ll explore and develop the participant’s voice and body as tools of expression that in turn can be used to convey a character, a situation, and ultimately tell a story. We’ll work on different aspects of theatre and acting such as responding to an impulse, working with text, communicating thoughts and emotions, and allowing yourself to be vulnerable in front of an audience. No previous experience of acting is necessary. All you need is an open mind and the desire to play around and discover your creative potential.
