Contactimprovisation

For whom
The course is open to everyone with curiosity with or without dance background. It may well be an interesting course for people who have followed the modern dance class or dance improvisation at the LAKtheater.

Content
In Contact Improvisation (CI) physical contact forms the possibilities for dancing. Contact-dancers roll and tumble over each other in duets or groups and can lift each other effortlessly. This requires of our bodies to listen to and follow one another. It also asks and builds a reflexive physical organisation to the dynamics of gravity and momentum. Solo exercises and partner-work will prepare our bodies to open and to stay free in the awkward. We will approach CI as an experiment with anatomy and less usual body-images and -organisations, which can also increase one’s general physical awareness.

Teacher
As a dancer, Kees Lemmens is richly inspired by architecture, fine arts and theatre. In dancing he worked with more than 50 international teachers. Over the years, his focus has shifted from theatrical and modern dance to Contact improvisation. He has recently finished the first half of the CI-Fortbildung in Berlin and has been teaching and organising CI-events since 2009.
