Playing with your voice

For whom
This course is meant for people interested in performing more than just the notes; people who want to learn how to work with text, or put together a more rounded performance. The course is not only suitable for people who already have some experience with solo singing and choirs, or are just beginning, but also for those who have never sung before but would love to become acquainted with their voice. You just have to like singing and be curious about discovering your own vocal ability. The work is challenging and thought provoking.

Content
In this exceptional singing course you will look beyond the words and the notes. What is their relationship with each other? Central to the lessons is the role of the singer as 'story teller', someone who tells their story with the help of words, pitch and rhythm. By working on text as an actor, you will become aware of what effect the text of a song combined with an ímpulse' can have on you emotionally, physically and vocally. You will also be offered a way of thinking about vocal technical problems such as intonation, breath control and moving from the low to high voice and how these problems can be addressed. Points such as concentration and making contact with the public are also dealt with during the course. Another important subject that we look at is stage nerves; not only in the context of singing, but in a broader sense. In this course you will become acquainted with your voice in a new light, as well as getting handy tips that can be used in your daily life - especially for example if you have to speak in public or defend a thesis.

You will be required to choose four songs that you know and would like to work on with the teacher, and a few times during the 12 week period a pianist will attend the lessons to accompany you whilst singing.
